Are Online Marketing and SEO The Same?

When speaking technically, SEO and Online Marketing are very different. Trying to compare them both would be like comparing apples to oranges. Nevertheless, having the two of these platforms work together will be of great benefit to a growing online business. There are many people and businesses that use the terms SEO and Online Marketing interchangeably, however, each platform serves its own unique purpose. For that reason, it is important to understand that focusing on one platform more than the other will not necessarily help a business. The key to a successful internet marketing campaign is the balance of the two.

Search Engine Optimization or SEO

SEO is considered to be the more technical platform out of the two platforms. The main goal that SEO wants to accomplish is to bring the company’s website to the front page on search engines, but not only be on the front page but to be the first link on the first page. Page rank depends on SEO. That is why it is crucial for a company to focus on providing articles with relative content and appropriate keyword density.

One other factor to be considered in terms of SEO is Social Signal. When we talk about a social signal, we are talking about the importance of user input as this affects page ranking as well. Every time a user reposts, likes, tweets, etc. in response to a particular article or blog, it affects the page ranking. For those who are wondering if backlinking still works, it does. Moreover, posting frequently to your blog with high-quality content also affects page rank as well as building a strong and productive online presence for interested readers and visitors.

Online Marketing

We discussed how SEO was the more technical platform out of the two filled with page content, links, and keywords. Online Marketing, on the other hand, is the more human side. Online marketing plays a massive role in the success of a company. The reason for this being that online marketing focuses on the interaction with visitors through video marketing, article marketing, and social media. Social Media plays such a huge role that through sites such as Google + and Facebook, in just a matter of seconds a company can extend its market’s reach greatly.

Moreover, providing high-quality content through forums is another online marketing strategy that has proved itself to be very successful as it extends the company’s brand to even more readers of their website. Sending sales copies and snippets of blogs via e-mail is also another strategy that can be used to attain new customers as well as retain existing customers. These type of e-mails entice the recipient to read the website, click on links and buy just about anything the company is offering.

In order for a company to have a successful online campaign, it is important for them to put half of their focus and effort into SEO and the other half into Online Marketing. It is also critical to keep in mind that although the two platforms are very different when they are brought together, they will allow a company to take advantage of many successful marketing strategies and expand their online presence.
